Alpine Country

*Entrance to the Mt. Bogong Trail

We celebrated the Queen's birthday long-weekend by driving into the High Country. It was the opening weekend of ski season (who knew you could ski in Australia?), but there was no snow on the ground to speak of.

*The return of the woman from Snowy River.

There was plenty of rain! Luckily it didn't really start coming down until after we finished horseback riding, though we did spend the last hour or so getting cold, wet wind blown in our faces. Horseback riding is hard work (I forgot!) and my back and legs paid for that afternoon of fun for days.

*Bogong.

We stayed in Mt. Beauty in the Kiewa Valley. Mt. Beauty sits in the foothills of Mt. Bogong, the highest peak in Victoria. We were half planning on hiking up Mt. Bogong, but the previous days horseback ride ensured that I did not. Instead we went on the Peppermint Trail (you can guess difficulty rating of this "hike").

*Heading out for a hike in the High Country.

Even with the rain we had a great time. It reminded me a lot of Rabun-- the surprises just don't stop here in Australia.
